Slate Front-End Developer

As part of the Slate Front-End Team, the Front-End Developer is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the Slate Front-End Team and assists front-end development efforts within the team. This role is critical in optimizing the development of our front-end solutions in Slate and has a large impact on ensuring the quality of custom-built Portals and front-end tools. This position will ensure that Carnegie delivers sophisticated, modern, beautiful, responsive portals for colleges, universities, independent schools, and professional schools.

Responsibilities:

  • Slate Front-End Development Efforts
    • Assess project scope in terms of front-end development in Slate.
    • Coordinate with Slate Strategists and Client Management team members to align on design, content, UX, timeline, and development requirements.
    • Ensure project teams are provided with clear, viable front-end development deliverables that satisfy project scope and client expectations.
    • Create comprehensive HTML specification documents outlining motion, hover states, web fonts, accessibility/UX, and other necessary features for successful development.
  • Slate Front-End Strategy
    • Advise on regular project execution strategy for those in the subdivision.
    • Encourage the exploration and implementation of AI technologies to enhance the development process.
    • Provide strategy insights based on data structure and industry trends to support Slate Strategists and Copywriters.
    • Adhere to industry best practices to ensure code is scalable and efficient, with the ability to handle all data types .
  • Quality Assurance (QA) Testing
    • Support QA activities throughout the project lifecycle, focusing on visuals, accessibility, browser compatibility, UX, and technical implementation adherence.
    • Align QA teams to work collaboratively, ensuring synchronous and timely execution of QA for front-end and CMS deliverables, as appropriate for the project.
    • Provide occasional technical support, code review, or troubleshooting assistance as needed.
  • Slate Front-End Projects
    • Own the build and maintenance of Slate Portals and front-end tools  for partner institutions, including Portal Views and Methods.
    • Interface with Slate Strategists to ensure development meets project requirements and client expectations.
    • Collaborate closely with members of the client team (Account and Project Managers, Sales, Creative, and Slate Strategists) to ensure smooth and accurate project operations.
    • Assist team members in responding to support requests, resolving issues when possible, and routing requests to the most suitable team member for resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of responsive web design and HTML5 / CSS3 / SASS / SCSS / JavaScript / JQuery
  • Solid understanding of best practices and standards for web development, performance, security, accessibility
  • (WCAG 2.2), and organic search engine optimization
  • Proficient experience creating flexible, robust design systems
  • Familiarity with quality assurance tools and code validation tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, multi-tasking, prioritizing, and decision-making.
  • Effective communication and time management skills for a remote work environment as well as the ability to use/learn multiple technology platforms and switch between them on a regular basis
  • Knowledge of Slate Portals
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, multitasking, prioritization, and decision-making
  • Interpersonal skills to positively collaborate with team members and represent the company to clients
  • Must be able to work at a computer for prolonged periods

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent life/work experience
  • Minimum of of two years of professional experience in a similar role and a proven track record executing complex design projects
  • Familiarity with  Technolutions Slate CRM preferred
